The High Commission of the Republic of Kenya, in New Delhi was established in the year 1969 to promote diplomatic relations as well as enhancing political, economic, security, cultural and consular services between Kenya and India, and countries of accreditation.

The diplomatic relations between Kenya and India is at its best. Foreign officials and leaders of the two countries engage frequently at bilateral and multilateral levels in areas such as trade and Investments, Military cooperation, Tourism, Healthcare services, capacity building, cultural exchanges as well as peace and security matters. The mission established in New Delhi has over the years expanded as a focal point of Kenya’s Diplomatic representation in the South Asia region covering India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan. The remit of the mission is to deepen the existing cordial relations by contributing to peace efforts and bilateral cooperation between Kenya and countries of accreditation.

Opportunities in Kenya are enormous given Kenya’s geo-political location at the confluence of the Great Lakes, Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean contiguity makes it a strategic gateway to Africa’s major trading blocs such as the East African Community (EAC) the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the African Continental Free Trade Area. Nairobi is also home to the United Nations Office where numerous different UN agencies have a joint presence.

The High Commission operations are guided by a Service Charter: the Primary interface and liaison with the Government of India, and countries of accreditation- Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan; Primary interface and liaison with the government of Kenya; Identifying potential areas for cooperation and establishing necessary contacts and mechanisms; Facilitation of trade and investment missions; Facilitate high level visits; Coordinate the work of appointed Consul Generals in the countries of accreditation and support Kenya diaspora community and commercial relations; Provision of information on Kenya; Facilitate visits to Kenya and provide information on Trade and Investment opportunities in India and countries of accreditation; Management and response to Diaspora issues in India and countries of accreditation and provide information on educational and training opportunities in India and Countries of accreditation.
